Gaelic reaper

Sir: Charles Seaton reporting on Competition no 666 (September 25) surely makes a blunder when he assumes that Wordsworth's "Highland Lass' would address the poet in broad Lowland Scots. If the Solitary Reaper were indeed Highland she would express herself either in Gaelic or in the precise English of these parts. So instead of commending the entries rendered in Scots Mr Seaton ought to have deducted marks for ignorance.
