The usual prizes are offered for a translation of Catullus's poem printed below, in the style of any one of the following English (and Scots) poets : John Dome, Robert Burns, Lord Byron, Coventry Patmore, Lord Tennyson, A. E. Housman, T. S. Eliot, Dylan Thomas.

Ille mi par esse deo videtur, file, si fas est, superare divos, Qui sedens adversus identidem to Spectat et audit Dulce ridentem, misero quod omnis Eripit senses mihi ; nam simul le, Lesbia, aspexi, nihil est super mi Vocis in ore ; Lingua sed torpet, tennis sub antus Flamma demanat, sonitu suopte Tintinant aures, gemina teguntur Lumina nocte.

Entries must be addressed to the Spectator, 99 Gower Street, W.C.1, in envelopes marked " Competition," and must be received not later than April 22nd. Results will be published in the Spectator of May 1st.
