Not just for Rupert
From Guy Black Sir: Stephen Glover's column (Media studies, 27 March) about Michael Howard's speech to a News International conference in Cancun contained a number of inaccuracies. Mr Glover said that Michael Howard had made remarks about the Spanish election result simply 'to please News Corp executives' but that he had 'chosen not to say [them] to his own countrymen'. This is untrue. Mr Howard had in fact made exactly the same comments the day before in Gloucestershire, and has made them since returning.
Furthermore, Mr Glover suggests that Mr Howard's comments about the 'just' war against Iraq were also made because Mr Murdoch 'wanted to hear' them. Michael Howard has consistently said that the war was a just one, including in the debate in the House of Commons on the Hutton report. Michael Howard will continue to speak up for the interests of all the British people because they have been so badly let down by this govern
ment, not because any one person wants to hear them.
