Those parts of Mr. Coolidge's Message which. mainly concern Americans
emphasize the immense wealth of the United States, which now "possesses the greatest treasure ever bestowed upon any people." Americans have, of course, been particularly interested by the rather reprov- ing words which Mr. Coolidge addressed to the farmers. The . fact is that the farmers have not had- their share in the general advance of wealth. Like our own farmers, they are asking for help. Mr. Coolidge promises them that "any workable proposal" will have the earnest support of the Government, but he does not regard their own suggestion that there should be a reduction of the tariff as a "workable proposal."
