Newcastle ought to be a Liberal borough, but we believe
we shall lose it, Mr. Cowan, the Liberal candidate, actually accepting Home Rule, the Permissive Bill, Arbitration, and every Radical "fad" it is possible to think of. Genuine Radicals do not want to win on these terms, and we cannot but believe that the abstentions, as the place is essentially Liberal, will be on the most extensive sale, probably sufficient to let the Tory in.
