There was a riot at Wigan on Thursday evening, arising
out of the exas- peration of the Irish Roman Catholic population in Union Street and Green- hough's Row, through the playing of party music, (the air of "Boyne Water," &c.) by a Protestant band. The Irish commenced the riot, and were attacked in their turn by the Protestant colliers ; and then the Mayor was some hours in restoring order by an overwhelming force of special constables. A military force, brought from Preston at midnight,. maintained the order which had been restored. Some sixty prisoners were in custody yesterday.
