Cause without a rebel
LEAVING THE ERM has been such a relief that the City is in no hurry to reboard the Eurobus to union. Easier to assume that the bus will not run, or not to time, anyway. We have, though, signed up to travel and to arrive before the century is out. Now an outfit called Colcom (City of London Concern over Maastricht) is trying to make itself heard against the profession- al and amply funded Euro-publicists. This week it brought out a little pamphlet at a little party, graced by Stani Yassukovich Colcom naively labelled him 'City finance giant' but could not get his name right. If Colcom wants to make an impact it will have to raise its game, and what it needs first of all is a visible leader. I would go for Sir John Nott, with his experience at both ends of the argument, as minister and as merchant bank chairman — and with the gift for polemics which he exercised the other day on the Serious Fraud Office.
