All on board
Sir: The first part of John Webber's letter (Letters, 26 June) concerning the activities of his company IMG in the classical music world only serves to confirm my article of 12 June (`The man who owns the stars'). When IMG was 'forced to reassess its offer' to the Harold Agency the board, including a director named Stephen Wright, voted against continuing discussions with IMG about a possible purchase. If Mr Wright was so set on an association with IMG, why did he vote with the rest of the board? The answer came 24 hours later when Mr Wright announced to his fellow directors that he would be leaving Harold Holt and taking his department with him to IMG.
LETTERS
In the second part of his letter he states that Tom Graham of the Harrison Parrott agency and Diana Mulgan of the Lies Askonas agency informed their respective companies of their departure prior to any discussion with the artists they represented. Does Mr Webber seriously expect us to believe that IMG did not have any indica- tion as to whether the performers would follow the agents before he closed the deal with Mr Graham and Miss Mulgan? Surely not: IMG is a company whose success comes from the revenue generated by clients, not the expenses incurred by agents.
