Whitby seems very much inclined to send Mr. George Hudson,
erst "Railway King," to Parliament again. Whitby, however, is a prudent place, and makes its favour dependent upon conditions. Mr. Hudson is fighting his right to East Cliff, the best property in the neighbourhood, which is in Chancery, and he thinks it ex- pedient to inform the electors that he is morally certain of a deci- sion in his favour. If he does not get it, we think we may predict ; Whitby will have a sudden fit of virtuous indignation. The poli- tical claims of wealth are not often, even in England, asserted with such candour or—shall we say? such cynicism.
