Compact discs

Points of view

Richard Baker I derive enormous pleasure from my compact disc player, in particular it is good for chamber music and solo instruments. However, I do find the range of dynamics to be a problem, the soft is so soft and the loud so loud that I often find I have to reach for the controls in the middle of a piece. In my job putting record programmes together for Radios 2, 3 and 4 (which is absurd but I do it), it is bliss not to have to struggle to find a completely blemish-free LP. I can just put on a compact disc and relax!
