My initial enthusiasm has not waned. The interference-free sound continues to delight and so does the way that favourite old recordings come up as if freshly minted in the new format. But it's the convenience of it that makes CD indispensable for me, the ability to go straight to any bar of any opera in a matter of seconds — and that without getting up out of my chair. CD is a godsend for the congenitally idle.
