There is a rumour that Lord Chelmsford may, resign the
Lord (Cheincellorshipeand, take /the place likely to be vacated by' Okief Justice Erie, -the-Chief -Jnisticeatrip of -the 'Common -Pleas, in which case Sir Hugh Cairns- would take the Lord Chancelloriship. There was another rumour that Sir- W. Boviel wouldsucceed Chief Justice Erle, in which case some new man, probably Mr. Brett, would have to be taken- into favour, to 'fill up the vacancy.
