Tangled

Monsieur: I love the letter (3 November) about chicory, endive and Dutch witloof wit (white), rlooft (it runs). In the Fifties I visited the departement of Yorkshire to study the food of the people. At that time, chicory was spread out in the attics of the quaint houses to dry. Hence, `Go up elooft, lad and fetch down a bag of chicory.'
