We call attention to the accounts by correspondents in another
column, of the disgraceful scene at the meeting of the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, on Tuesday, on occasion of the proposal to vote 2,000/. to Mr. Green, the Dean of Maritz- burg, and the Church Committee in Natal. The friends of Dr. Gray acted like a mob of ignorant and violent persons without reason on their side, who could not and would not allow discussion. They would hear neither legal criticism, nor intellectual criticism, nor moral criticism. Who can forbear to draw the inference that they fear argument, and have made up their minds to carry by unfair dealing what they could not carry by fair ?
