The Debats of Thursday-declare the result of the French elec-
tions..of Conseils-Generanx :to be as follows :—In about 1,400 elections of which the results are known, the Republicans have gained rather over 600; the Royalists about 580; and the -Buonapartists not quite 150. It is admitted, however, on all sides, that a vast number of these elections turned completely on local matters, and not in the least on general politics ; but though reeognising this fact, the Royalist and Buonapartist journals are dissatisfied with the result, and are drawing dismal auguries for the political appeal, when it is made. Not much can be inferred from these local elec- tions. But it is clear enough that, so far as a political motive could be ascribed to them,—which very often is not the case,—the Republican party is much stronger than any other single party throughout the country. Of course "Royalists,' —including, as they do, the highest Legitimists and the most moderate Orleanista,—will never act together.
