Sir: One hates to deprive Peregrine Wor- sthorne (Diary, 16 July) of yet one more excuse to revile the Sixties but the Cam- bridge Union debate to which Miss Stassi- nopoulos invited him, and which his daughter snubbed, took place in the Surly Seventies, as Picasso's youthful biographer would no doubt sharply remind him.

Mr Worsthorne made a profound im- pression on my generation. Another Wilde, we thought: not what he said, what he wore.
