Sir: Charles Higham's statement (Letters, 3 September) that there is strong evidence that the Duchess of Windsor had close contacts with Ribbentrop seems to be based on a report he has not seen. In his book he says the evidence was written 'as a report to the biographer Lady Danaldson'. This suggests that the report was sent to me while I was writing the book, which is not true. A copy was sent many years later, merely as a matter of interest. I had found it unconvincing and it is true that I mislaid it.
