BOOKS FOR THE LONELY COLONIST.
[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR,—Lady Jersey's appeal for reading for lonely settlers, in the Spectator of the 4th inst., seems to imply that the Victoria League originated the idea of trying to supply this need in 1903. This is not the case. The " Aberdeen Association " was organized by Lady Aberdeen and Mrs. Taylor, of Winnipeg, for this purpose, as far as Canada was concerned, in 1893. I hope that Lady Jersey's letter will meet with a good response.—I am, Sir, &c., E. C. A. GORDON,
Organizing Secretary to Aberdeen Association, 1805-97.
