The Liberal revival
Sir As a liberal I feel sure _that my party will heed Mr Cosgrave's advice (August 4). As we all know, political leaders have lots and lots of things to do, but nevertheless 1 feel sure that Jeremy will make a really superhuman effort to " use the next parliament learning about power." After all we cannot have any old provincial ignoramus governing the country can we?
Naturally, we will ' modify ' our European policy (surprise, surprise, he actually admits that we have one). Really, sir, the suggestion that we will remain firm in our support of 13ritain's entry, and in the belief that there is no question of renegotiating the terms, is quite preposterous! Power and principles are just not compatible to each other, or so the Tories and Socialists seem to think.
Finally, to hear that young ' intellectual ' Tories (1 was brought up to believe that only cabbages are conservative) at a luncheon, after hearing the Ely and Ripon results, broke the traditional stiff-upper lip by cheering the victors (Jeremy is a nice chap you see and they hated that horrible Mr Heath) made me feel all warm inside. Honestly, it did.
