Judgment is His

Sir: Your correspondent, Mr Reg Brissenden (Letters, 4 August), was quite mistaken in writing 'Evangelical Methodism is regarded as a heresy by the Pope, and its followers doomed to eternal damnation.' Roman Catholics believe that only a fully deliberate rejection of God's authority merits damnation. Those who believe, in good faith, anything that is objectively untrue will, we hope and pray, be received by God's infinite mercy, because He alone knows how much or how little opportunity they had of being fully informed.

Therefore, neither the Pope nor any other human being has the right to anticipate the judgment that God will deliver.
