Saa,—I was much interested in the letter of your corre- spondent on thie subject. A few years ago, when staying with friends in the neighbourhood of Tintagei, we were all much mystified by bearing in a lane near the house after dark a sound as of the heavy breathing of a sleeping animal. It appeared to come from the bottom of a hedge, but certainlY no animal was anywhere near, and we failed to find anything to account for the unusual hound, although it was repeated on
several nights near the same spot. I have never come across anyone who could throw light on the somewhat "uncanny" incident, and though we never saw a hedgehog (indeed, we looked for something much bigger) the explanation suggested does not seem an unlikely one.—I ant, Sir, Ac.,
