Some time ago a licence holder was invented, known at
the "Barnacle," which would remain firmly fixed to the windscreen of a car by a few turns of a mat. The pressure exerted by this operation on the back of the holder created a vacuum which caused the holder to adhere to any flat surface. It had the advantage over other types of being watertight and not requiring mechanical fitment, and it is now a standardized article on some cars. Mr. Puckert, the inventor, has since turned his attention to the manufacture of the "Barnacle Universal Lighter. Worked in connexion with the battery, this device, can be applied both to pipes and cigarettes. It costs only 17s. 6d., and is distinctly neat.
