The Nightingale This year I heard my first nightingale on
April 19th performing in a willow tree overhanging a dell only two hundred yards from the house. For several warm nights the " wanderer from a Grecian shore " competed with the screech owls, and then the return of more normal English spring nights discouraged her, and the owls were left alone to their ironic merriment.
