Scottish International

Sir: May I correct an error in Bookbuyer's Bookend (April 6)? In February the board of the magazine, Scottish International, decided to cease publication, because of its worsening financial situation. It also decided not to apply for further subsidy from the Scottish Arts Council and other supporters. Its ex-editor disagreed with his own board.

The decision to close cliSwn was therefore the board's, and not the Scottish Arts Council's.

To write of "the Scottish Arts Council's decision to close down• its (sic) monthly magazine Scottish International" is untrue and misleading. Alexander Dunbar Scottish Arts Council, 19 Charlotte Square, Edinburgh.
