Dr. Clifford made a vehement attack on Roman Catholicism at
the meeting of the Baptist Union at Manchester on Thursday week. We quote from the report in the Daily News of Friday the 3rd inst. :— ""The Romanist is asserting,' he cried, that Protestantism is dying, and that by and by Roman Catholicism will be the one and only religion. If so, humanity will go to destruction.' Bo on the watch, was his advice. They could not afford to bo apathetic. Everywhere the Roman Catholics in this country wero endeavour- ing to secure civic and political positions to advance their power. ' Counterwork them,' the aged doctor exclaimed. 'Don't let them get to the top. Watch them in the matter of education. The Romanist is already profiting by the money which comes out of your pocket, and is propagating his religion."
