IRC shortcomings

Sir: It is nice to know (Letters, October 4) that the years have not dimmed the fantasy in Lord George-Brown's world.

I am flattered that the idea of a piece by me should prove such an attraction to him, mildly irritated by his gross distortion of the circumstances in which he recruited me, but deeply grateful to him for pointing out my high qualifications for writing about the 'economy'. It was indeed my spell at the 1RC which first opened my eyes to its many shortcomings.
