Sir: Who wrote the miserable Notebook piece about Archbishops Lefebvre (4 September)? It has an uneasy smell of the Foreign Office's Misinformation Department.
Journalists of half your experience, Sir, must know that the Foreign Office is infested not only by Freemasons, homosexualists and KGB agents but also, far more sinister, by 'progressive' or 'co-operative' Catholics, —quislings and running dogs of the Babylonian Montini. Any day now we can expert a confidential briefing to the cringing hacks of the Diplomatic Lobby where they will be told, confidentially, that Lefebvre is a dope fiend with a sorry record of mental disturbance.
If independent weeklies like Spectator have a single purpose, it is freely to stand out against this form of news manipulation. Shame on you, Sir.
