At two o'clock this afternoon, the Queen arrived at the
House of Lords, in the customary state, to prorogue the session of Parliament. It was not to be expected that the Royal Speech would make any important re- velation. Perhaps its most remarkable trait is the exceedingly quiet tone in which it alludes to the legislative achievements of the session. In reference to the war the language is forcible from its simplicity and directness-
" In cordial cooperation with the Emperor of the French, my efforts will be directed to the effectual repression of that ambitious and aggressive spirit on the part of Russia, which has compelled us to take up arms in defence of an ally, and to secure the future tranquillity of Europe."
