Before we leave the subject of the naval action we
must record that the ' Scharnborst ' and Gneisenau ' were cruisers of 11,400 tons displacement, the ' Leipzig' of 3.250 tons and the Narnberg ' of 3,450 tons. It is to be feared that our ships were only able to save very few of the crew of the sunk vessels. The ' Dresden,' it should be noted, still remains at large, but we hope and believe that before the next appearance of the Spectator she will have been accounted for, as also some of the other German vessels which are still at large.
