The "Eyewitness" sent to the papers of Tuesday an admir-
able review of the King's visit to the front. On Monday, November 30th, the King was received with great enthusiasm at headquarters. On Tuesday, December let, accompanied, as on each succeeding day, by 1 he Prince of Wales, the King visited the Indian troops and the Fourth Army Corps. On this day he met General Joffre. M. Poircare, and M. Viviani. The sound of the cheering, says the writer, must have puzzled the Germans, whose lines were not far distant. General Joffre was invested with the G.C.B. Wedeeaday. December 2nd, the King visited the Third Army Corp» and some of the cavalry. He watched the manufacture of charcoal for use in the trench braziers, and saw the resting-places where exhausted men recuperate and the bathing establishment where men can have a hot bath and receive fresh clothes. On Thursday, December 3rd, the King conferred the Order of Merit on Sir John French. He then visited the First and Second Corps and some cavalry. On this day he met the King of the Belgians and conferred on him the Order of the Garter.
