When the new German Government met the Reichstag for the
first time on Thursday, February 3rd, there was general surprise at the excellent terms which- the Chan- cellor, Herr Marx, had made with the Nationalist Party. The only points scored by the Nationalists were that they had persuaded Herr Marx to include four instead of three of their Party in the Cabinet, and that they had received promiSes of legislation agreeable to them in regard to education, agriculture and trade. In all the matters which had been the subject of hot controversy, such as the existence of - the Republic, the acceptance of the Republican flag, the position of the Reichswehr and foreign policy, the Nationalists had nominally given way.
