Sin,—In your interesting article in the Spectator of January 5th thus headed, the writer says of Vice-Chancellor Bacon that "them must be many who have even seen him upon the Bench." Even seen him on the Bench. Marry. and a good deal earlier, too! Bacon was my father when I was called to the Bar, and more than once I was his junior while he was yet only a Q.C. Long after all that, I well remember a pleasant scene in Lincoln's Inn Hall on Great Grand Day, when the old Vice-Chancellor, his handsome face beaming with parental joy, was warmly congratulated by the Lord Chancellor and the Law Officers of the Crown on the appointment of his son as a County Court Judge. There was an excellent article on "Bacon, V.C." in the Saturday Review shortly after his retirement,—I am, Sir, &c., A. J. M.
