The Schemes of the Kaiser. From the French of Juliette
Adam. By J. 0. P. Bland. (W. Heinemann. 5s. not.)—When Mine. Adam edited the Nouvelle Revue she contributed to it a series of shrewd and vivacious " Letters on Foreign Policy," which were very popular. Mr. Bland has selected and translated with care the letters dealing with the German Emperor between 1890 and 1899. They are still amusing, but they are also prophetic. Like Cassandra, Mme. Adam was accused at the time of imagining dangers where none existed. But we all know now that she was right in her interpretation of the megalomania of William II. and his flatterers.
