Lazy lady

Sir: I know Paul Johnson meant it kindly (The media, 15 December) when he con- trasted Eve Pollard and me with the stridency of women in the political arena but I can't accept his compliment.

My failure to 'strike feminist attitudes' these days is a measure not of my agree- ment with Mr Johnson but of a wholly reprehensible laziness and some cowardice on my part.

People like me are the beneficiaries of the 'strident', 'tiresome' and 'aggressive' women who have forced a hearing in public places — not in any way their moral or cultural superiors.
