Room with a view
MY SELF-IMPOSED vow, to stop teasing Lloyd's of London about its technological new buildings, has been cracked by a notice passed to me by a friend in the market. It is headed Lloyd's Building Briefing (one of a series directed to those who have to work there), and reads: `SECURITY: Room-users are requested not to interfere with the security video cameras set into the ceilings of the toilet facilities.' This edict has been sent out in the name of the Superintendent of the Room (which?). There is a further Briefing about the escalators. It says that to allevi- ate the singular directional wear suffered during peak room-user activity, the direc- tion of all escalators will be reversed at 12.30 p.m. each day, with apologies to those standing on them. 'It would also help prevent service and maintenance interrup- tions if users would put slightly more weight on to one leg during the transporta- tion phase.' The other, I suspect, is being pulled.
