We understand, upon what we deem good authority, that Mr.

E. J. Stanley, Secretary of the Treasury, has been appointed to succeed Sir James R. Carnac (who has returned home in consequence of ill health) in the lucrative office of Governor of Bombay.—Correspondent of the Standard, June 12.

Mr. D. Le Marchant, of the Board of Trade, starts as a candidate for Harwich ; and if he is returned for that place, we are told he is to succeed Mr. Stanley as one of the Secretaries of the Treasury.—The same.

The Globe speaks of Mr. Le Marchant's appointment as positive ; and hints obscurely at some promotion for Mr. Stanley.
