Sir: There is a new exception to the general rule of ladies first (Letters, 26 February).
`I'd definitely support "youthanasia" . . The Eastern Orient Express from Singa- pore to Bangkok and back has heavy sliding doors at the end of each carriage to contain the air-conditioning. A gentleman should precede the lady down the corridors in order to open these doors.
Last week I saw a lady preceding a gen- tleman. The gentleman had a copy of The Spectator sticking out of his coat pocket. Michael Allsopp
