SUNDAY SERVICES FOR GOLFERS ?
[To the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR,—I think the idea is well worthy of consideration by golf club committees. I believe it was the Vicar of Birkdale, in Lancashire, who introduced the innovation of holding special services for golfers on Sunday mornings in his church over- looking the links, and they have proved very successful. Evenls there a stained glass window in the church depicting golfers at play.
Golfers are by no means lacking in the proper spiritual devotion; but, for many of them, Sunday is the only full day they have for recreation, and I suppose, as the ordinary hours of worship are not adapted to sport, they are inclined to place their physical well-being first, and trust to their own consciences in other matters. A brief service in the club -house would be well worth trying.—I am, Sir, &c., R. ENDERSBY HOWARD.
