THE TRUTH ABOUT QUEX. By Douglas Jerrold. (Henn. 7s. 6d.)—In
this vigorous novel Mr. Jerrold attempts to describe some of the more sordid aspects of business life. We do not in the least agree with the author that " big busi- ness " is built upon such shoddy foundations as are here described, yet Artemus Quex represents truly enough a certain type of financial adventurer, trampling remorselessly on every obstacle, material or human, that stands in his path. And Mr. Jerrold has a good fund of humour.
