The sugar-refining works and warehouses belonging to Messrs. DiTie and

Sens, in Bachelor Street, Liverpool, were burnt dovrn on Thursday evening. Fortunately, no other buildings were destroyed; but the poor people who inhabits.' the neighbouring houses lost a great quantity of furniture. The origin of the fire is at present a mystery. The premises are stated to be fully insured; and, al- though a considerable quantity of property was saved, the loss is estimated at nearly 60,0001. The sugar-house of Provost Eerie, at Greenock, was also entirely consumed by fire, on Thursday morning, together with the stock and machinery. The damage is estimated at 50,0001.; and a rumour was current that several lives had beat lost.
