The Problems of Modern Music (Dent) is a translation from
the German of Prof. Adolf Weissmann. It gives a most thorough survey of the tendencies of modern music, and a criticism of the works of individual composers. Prof. Weiss- mann's alertness is amazing ; he knows the music of every nationality and can express a judgment upon modem Finnish, Dutch, Polish or Norwegian musicians as confidently as upon more widely-known composers. -His criticism is gentle -but decided ; the book will be of great value as an index of names and a guide to judgment.
