In consequence of Sir Herbert Taylor's death, the Mastership of

St. Katherine's Hospital is vacant. Lord John Russell, on the premature report of Sir Herbert's decease, sent to the Hospital lim the charter, resuming that the right of appointing a successor vas in the Crown. Aft appears, however, that considerable douLt exists as to phi,. The Charity Commissionas say distinctly, that the Queen Dowager lets the right of appointment- " When there is no Queen Consort or Queen Dowager, the King nominates the Master, &c. pro law eke ; but the Queen Dowager !lath no power or juris- diction when there is a Queen Consort. If, howevt r, there is a Queen Reg- nant and a Queen Dowager, the latter would have the power in preference to the Queen Itegnaut."

It is said that Queen Adelaide intends the Mastership for the Earl of Denbigh.
