The meetings were held this week of the Norwich Union Life and the Norwich Union Fire Insurance Societies, and at both meetings the President, Mr. Michael Falcon, was able to present a most excellent report. The shares of the Fire Society are, of course, all held by the Life Society, which is a mutual Institution. Consequently, the members of the Norwich Union Life are directly concerned in the fortunes of the Fire Society. The results of that concern for the past year were very satisfactory, while as regards the Life Society Mr. Falcon said that three years of the current quinquennium had been completed, and in spite of the modifications in the general outlook, the reserve strength of the Society and the results achieved enabled them to view with satisfaction the probable outcome at the end of the current valuation period. He mentioned the fact that the Society's reserves were based on the assumption that the earning power of money would only be 2i per cent, per
