SIR,—Mr. John Rosselli in his fair, depressing and accurate review of the state of British publishing omits only to comment on the arrival of the non. book. I mean the sort of publication designed to be seen rather than read, referred to rather than digested.

It is a 'treasury for the home and a triumph of the printer's art,' to use phrases from blah-blahs by which the mail-order moguls in the States have so successfully promoted this kind of merchandise.

With rising American influence in Bloomsbury and th..: decline of the British retail outlet, we are going to see more and more British publishing firms pro- ducing the non-book which, since it is not going to be read, will not be submitted to you, sir, for review.
