Foulness forever!

The answer to the Cublington-Foulness argument is available to those who can be bothered to look. They should note, first, that the Ministry of the Environment refused to give permission for the Leeds-Bradford airport to have its runway extended so as to be able to take the big jets. This proves that the offensive nature of inland noise is well recognised. Second, they should heed the curious case of the motorway through the Chilterns, where the new Tory administration dearly wanted to get rid of Labour's Fred Mulley's preferred route in favour of that demanded by the conservationists, until Peter Walker's juniors found out that Fred Mulley's route was, unhappily, the best, even if it might have been the most expensive. This proves the desire to overturn the Labour government's decisions, but only where a clear conservationist case can be proved.

Foulness wins.
