The Liberal Amendment On Wednesday Mr. Macpherson moved an amend-
ment to the Address demanding the suspension of the Scottish Local Government Act The Prime Minister' explained that his pledge to suspend the Act had naturally been conditional upon his being given absolute Parliamentary power. That he had not got, and all he could do in the circumstances was to promise to circulate a Bill reversing the clauses in the Act which abolish ad hoc education authorities. -Major Elliot chaffed the Government good humouredly on their sudden decision to bless four-fifths of the Act. The Address was then voted.
