SIR,—John Betjeman's note on names and places in the Spectator of June 22 recalls the comment of, I think, the New Yorker on the appointment of a new Governor of Eastern Samoa some years ago. The capital of Eastern Samoa is Pago Pago, and the announcement of the appointment began, `Mr. Phelps Phelps, of New York, New York, is going to Pago Pago. . . .'
