BULGARIAN PRISONERS
SIR,—We are delighted to see that you have marked the file of Kolin Bakatov, the Bulgarian-prisoner adopted by the Edinburgh North Group of Amnesty International, closed, following information from
the Bulgarian authorities that he has been released.
Unfortunately there are other Bulgarian prisoners of conscience who are still in prison. We, the St. John's Wood Group, have adopted one, Boyan Tshinkov, who is serving a sentence of five years for telling political jokes against the Bulgarian regime. We too have written on several occasions to the authorities in Sofia, who have not replied to our letters. We have visited the Bulgarian Embassy in London and all our requests for information have been ignored. As your intervention was successful in the case of Kolin Bakatov, may we draw your attention and that of your readers to the case of Boyan Tshinkov, whose file is still very much open.
