Speed limit
Sir: I think Mr Max Nottingham's suggestion (Letters, October 30) of a device to limit the speed of cars might work if all drivers were good drivers all the time.
But has he never experienced a situation in which he, no doubt a good driver, suddenly threatened with being rammed by a bad one, has, by means of a reserve of speed, been able to avoid a collision?
Inability to accelerate can, on many occasions, be just as dangerous as can the failure of brakes on others.
