°11Couple of years ago, you reviewed ,.e of my books at length. The back edition edition of my latest book (Lon- don, 1982) appeared a few months (2) ago; it was widely reviewed. Music of mine has been broadcast by at least 5 European radio organisa- tions, including the BBC's Third Pro- (3 grev amme, and has been internationally ) riewed. It is generally known that I am in Charge of all string quartets at the (4) euudi Menuhin School. '11 Dec ember 1979, the Composers' Guild of Great Britain honoured me with a `Special Award in gratitude for sir:
many years of service to contemporary British music'.
(5) On 2 November 1982, the Lord Mayor of London awarded me the Fellowship of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in recognition of my 'outstand- ing services to the world of music and to the School'. (6) I am not, in fact, a critic at all, but a musician, writer, and teacher, and it is in these capacities that I am respected. (7) For the rest, my review of Burgess's music contained, and was based on, hard, technical fact.
